"You can go to different union jobs."

I came into the program looking for something better, but I wasn’t sure what “better” would actually look like for me. Nine weeks ago I felt like my future wasn't going nowhere but now I see opportunities. Before this, I was only making like $18 an hour and it was back-breaking work with no benefits. I kept thinking: if I’m going to work this hard, it should be building toward something, skills, stability, a real path forward.

From the start, the program helped me a lot as far as skill development goes. It wasn’t just talk or theory, they worked with me hands on and every day they made sure that I was retaining. If I needed support, it was there. They offered me tutoring to get my math skills up, and that made a difference because it showed me they weren’t going to let me fall behind. It pushed me to take the learning seriously, and it helped me build confidence in areas I used to avoid.

The expectations is high, and I mean that in a good way. The structure made me step up. It teaches you to be punctual, and it teaches you how to carry yourself like you’re already on the job. Even little things reinforced that mindset, like the only time you really get to use your phone is on lunch break or breaks. At first it felt strict, but then I realized it’s preparing you for the real environment, where you’re there to work, pay attention, and do things the right way.

One of the biggest things for me was getting to see the work up close. I got to go to job sites and see what union trade does and move machines. Seeing it firsthand made it real, not just something I’d heard about, but something I could actually picture myself doing. It helped me understand what the day-to-day looks like, what’s expected, and what kind of opportunities exist if you keep showing up and improving.

This program was recommended to me by a friend and I see it opened up doors. I’m grateful I listened, because it gave me more than just training, it gave me direction. I just feel like my future is looking nothing but better going ahead. I’m not stuck in the same place I was before, doing hard work without a plan. Now I can see a path where the effort leads somewhere.

If I had to sum up what I’d tell someone thinking about joining, it’s simple: Stay committed, stay dedicated, and have discipline. This program can really change what you believe is possible, but you have to meet it halfway. I did, and now I’m walking forward with opportunities I didn’t think I had.
